Garden Projects for Children

I believe passionately that children should spend as much time outdoors as possible. There’s an alchemy about being in the open air – children who were at each other’s throats in their bedroom will play quite happily if they’re chucked outside (and I have thrown fighting children out in the rain before – they enjoyed it... in the end!).

Decking

Decking has had such a bad press lately there is probably a real backlash against it. But it really does have a place in the garden, especially if the ground is uneven and you want to make a sitting area.

March is a great month to start to do some easy vegetables

It's worth trying to grow some vegetables even if you have a tiny space. The sheer satisfaction of eating what you've raised is amazing and they taste really good too.

Get hold of seed catalogues and think about having a go at sowing seeds this spring. You may notice I'm avoiding any mention of actually going outside until it warms up a bit more.

January - some great ideas to cheer up your garden this winter

  • Don't take the Christmas fairy lights down! Maybe re-arrange them and call them festoon lights but leave them up to provide a little bit of magic in the garden throughout the year.
